EBRD e-Learning Programme


Introduction to Factoring is an entry level online training programme delivered by the EBRD in cooperation with Factors Chain International (FCI).

The programme is developed by Factors Chain International (FCI) and content is written by industry professionals with in-depth knowledge and experience.

Introduction to Factoring comprises two separate training courses:

  • Introduction Course to Factoring and Invoice Finance
  • Foundation Course on Domestic and International Factoring

Course objective

  • Gain a firm understanding of factoring and enhance skills, in order to sell, utilise and process factoring transactions in line with established international standards;
  • Equip participants with sufficient knowledge to understand and avoid operational risks involved in invoice financing;
  • Provide TFP partner bank staff members and their clients with a sound understanding of factoring principles, allowing them to better structure trade transactions, improve risk assessment skills and identify opportunities where factoring could be utilised as a financing tool to facilitate the optimisation of clients’ trade activities.

This training course is designed for beginners in the field of receivables finance and covers following key areas including overview of factoring as a means of receivables finance, in domestic and international context, assessment of clients and selection process and client management.

Course structure

  • Module 1: Factoring products and its development
  • Module 2: Why companies use Factoring
  • Module 3: Assessing the prospective client and the selection of new client
  • Module 4: Managing the client
  • Module 5: International Factoring

Upon completion of all five modules, a student will be invited to complete an online test covering materials from all modules.


The course is available in five languages - English, Russian, French, Spanish and Chinese.

This training course is designed for entrants to the industry with less than 12 months factoring experience. The course provides an overview of factoring including a brief history of the industry and information about FCI, as well as the different types of factoring, benefits, methods, factoring business process of domestic factoring and the mechanism of the two-factor system.

Course structure

  • Module 1: Factoring Worldwide and FCI
  • Module 2: An Overview of Factoring
  • Module 3: Selection & Onboarding of the Seller
  • Module 4: Processes & Management of the Seller

The course is designed to be completed within 3 months and upon completion candidates are required to sit an online multiple-choice examination. Successful candidates will obtain Certificates of Completion endorsed by the EBRD and FCI.
